Give Back Program
Rwandans have quite a unique and special day amongst their national celebrations. On the last Saturday of each month, Rwandans participate in Umuganda, which translates to “community service”. It’s a time when all community members come together to participate in volunteer work and build community at a local and national level.
With the “Give Back” program you have the opportunity to give back like the locals do. We will help you find a community project (teaching, caring, building, etc.) that makes use of your resources, skills, experiences and/or interests. — you decide how much time and/or resources to spend. Here is just a sampling of the options:
- Use your skills to help a specific project. (A professional photographer once visited a remote village and took some stunning photos for a non-profit website.) Tell us your skills and we will help you find a worthy project.
- Make a directed donation. Virtually every school needs supplies, every medical clinic needs medicine, and every village needs better access to water. Let us know your interests and we’ll help you turn your donation into a tangible product that you can see when you get there. Speak to us; we always have several ongoing projects that could use additional support.
- Share the information. Spread the news to your friends and family. Let them know that you are going to Rwanda (or that you have just visited) and that there is a specific worthy cause that you will visit (or have visited). Better yet, you could email all your friends and set a specific goal for fundraising for a specific project that you can inspect when you arrive. Treks 2 Rwanda will provide you with all the information and documentation that contributions have been used wisely.
